Abstract

The research here presented studies São Paulo's memories of the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932 in two cities in the interior of the state of São Paulo: São Miguel Arcanjo and Itapira. In the current context, studying the memories of this conflict arouses other interests, in line with studies involving difficult heritage (MENEGUELLO; 2018,2020, 2022, RUBAL, 2016; MACDONALD, 2006) and sensitive pasts. Based on a theoretical and methodological framework of social memory studies, the research seeks to understand how these municipalities transmit and circulate memories of the violence that occurred in the territory. Semi-structured interviews and primary documentation stored in institutional archives (of museums and municipal secretariats) or archives of researchers on the subject are the main sources of the research. In this way, this approach recognizes the importance of research into the different forms of memory about the 1932 conflict, especially in the local context, where these memories are preserved and disseminated from generation to generation.
