Abstract

This project aims to study the poetics of Osip Mandelstam from the perspective of his participation in the Acmeist movement. This literary movement emerged in the early 20th century and aimed to produce an alternative to the already decadent Russian Symbolist movement. As he became a prominent figure among the Acmeists, Mandelstam found a breeding ground for his work, developing his style and his vision of art, strongly influencing our contemporary perception of the movement. However, certain trends in his work caused a gradual separation from movement of which he took part: the neoclassical clarity of his acmeist work is not observed in his early writings, and even less so in his later poems. Our proposal will be to investigate these transformations in his style, from the content and choice of themes to the rhythmic structure and rhetorical procedures. In order to produce a critical reflection on the opinion of the researchers studied, the critical and theoretical literature will be applied to a corpus of twenty poems by the author written between 1908 and 1925. We intend to produce, as the final product of our work, a commentary on the texts together with a translation to Portuguese. (AU)
