WOMEN WITH BREAST AND GYNECOLOGICAL CANCER: A MULTI-CENTER, MULTI-METHOD STUDY ON THE FUNCTIONALITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN BRAZIL AND PORTUGAL

Abstract

Introduction: Breast and gynecological cancers are frequent, with significant and alarming numbers and a clear impact on women's functionality and quality of life. Objectives: Evaluate the quality of life and functionality of women with breast and/or gynecological cancer, compared to women without cancer, in Brazil and Portugal Method: Multicenter, multimethod, cross-sectional study, collecting quantitative data. Women with and without breast and gynecological cancer, treated at the Hospital da Mulher Dr. José Aristodemo Pinotti and the Unidade Local de Saúde do Alentejo Central, will be recruited. Women without cancer will constitute the control group. The following data collection instruments will be used: a script of open questions for individual semi-directed interviews; a field diary; the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire, Karnofsky Performance Status. For quantitative research, the sample will be of at least 53 participants in each group (1. women with breast cancer; 2. with gynecological cancer and 3. without cancer), totaling 159 women. For statistical analysis (descriptive and bivariate), the Statistical Analysis System 9.2 software will be used, with a significance level of 5%.
