Abstract

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a common pigmentation disorder in men and women that significantly impacts self-esteem. This condition often affects the face as a consequence of acne, but it can also affect the underarm region due to continuous aggression from physical and chemical factors. The search for effective, safe and natural treatments has been driving the search for innovative alternatives. In this context, the blend of Mediterranean extracts (orange, rice, caper and olive), with known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, emerges as a promising candidate. Thus, the present project aims to develop and evaluate the physical-mechanical and sensory properties, as well as the clinical efficacy of dermocosmetic formulations for skin care of the face and underarm regions containing the blend of Mediterranean extracts, for the treatment of PIH. To this end, stability, rheological behavior, texture profile and sensory properties of the formulations will be analyzed. The efficacy will be assessed through a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study using biophysical techniques and image analysis to evaluate the benefits of the proposed formulations in improving PIH over a 90-day study period. Finally, it is expected to obtain stable formulations with good sensory properties and proven clinical efficacy, offering a new approach to controlling PIH and contributing to improving quality of life.
