Abstract

Chamomilla recutita L., commonly known as German chamomile, is a medicinal plant that arouses much interest, as well as being one of the most traditional and well-documented medicinal plants is still the most cultivated and consumed today. The essential oil and extract Chamomilla recutita L., have been used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes, because they have many classes of active compounds,. However, due to the high instability of their bioactive and stability of small fractions of skin cosmetics containing chamomile, microencapsulation of essential oil and extract of Chamomilla recutita L. becomes a promising tool for the development of stable and dermocosmetic formulations with proven efficacy. Although there are several microencapsulation techniques, when working with plant-derived, one of the most used is the spray drying due to its high productivity, versatility, and ease of scale up. Currently a new microencapsulation technique called spray freeze drying, has been emerging in the pharmaceutical area. This technique is very promising for the drying of natural products, because it combines the advantages of the techniques of spray drying and freeze-drying. The present work aims to develop, characterize and evaluate microparticles containing essential oil and / or extract of Chamomilla recutita L., as well as study and evaluate the influence of microencapsulation techniques for spray drying and spray freeze-drying in these two fractions of Chamomilla recutita L. Moreover, the goal is also to develop and evaluate cosmetic formulations containing these microparticles.
