Abstract

The construction industry has a significant impact on the environment, being responsible for generating large amounts of waste. Recycling and reusing construction and demolition waste are effective solutions to minimize these environmental impacts. Specifically, the use of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) in the production of new concrete is a promising alternative. Additionally, considering the need to enhance the performance of structures, fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs) offer an alternative that, among other advantages, allows for the design of structural elements more resistant to environmental aggressiveness, potentially providing more economical and durable solutions. However, for these materials to be employed in structural elements, it is essential that they possess adequate mechanical behavior, strength, and performance, both at ambient temperature and under fire conditions. Therefore, the main objective of this research project is to characterize the mechanical behavior, at ambient temperature and under fire conditions, of concrete with recycled concrete aggregates and structural concrete elements reinforced with glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars.
