Abstract

In the field of minimally invasive restorative dentistry, the use of poly(acrylic acid) has been presented as an efficient therapy, with several studies indicating its promising use in the process of dentin remineralization. However, most of the methodologies proposed in the literature do not present clinical applicability. In addition, its use in association with particles of calcium orthophosphate has not yet been explored, whose bioactive potential is already reported in the literature. The objective of this study is to formulate and evaluate the physicochemical characteristics and remineralizing potential of pre-treatments containing poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and dihydrated dicalcium phosphate (DCPD). The DCPD:PAA ratio will be 1:3, 1:1 or 3:1, and the solid phase corresponds to 30% or 10% of the formulation. Aqueous PAA solutions and pretreatment formulations will have determined viscosity (n=5). The occurrence of reaction between PAA and DCPD will be evaluated in ATR-FTIR spectroscopy (n=5). In 28 days of immersion in deionized water, the pH (n=5) and the calcium ion concentration will be monitored by an ion-specific electrode (n=5). Partially demineralized dentin discs will be evaluated in SEM after 28 days in a pulp chamber and simulated body fluid, and in contact with the dental pretreatments and restorations with composite (Filtek Z350; 3M ESPE, St Paul, USA). The data will be analyzed using ANOVA/Tukey test (alpha: 0.05). (AU)
