Abstract

Introduction: Protocol 8 of the American Breastfeeding Academy (ABM), USA (2017), recommends as "optimal" freezing raw human milk (RHM) for six months, and as 'acceptable', freezing raw human milk (RHM) for one year. The Brazilian protocol, from ANVISA, recommends a maximum freezing time of 15 days. According to literature data, there is evidence that RHM can be stored for more than 15 days in a domestic freezer without loss of quality and sanitary hygienic safety, especially if intended for healthy full-term babies in the domestic context. General objective: To evaluate the nutritional and microbiological quality of RHM in different storage periods. Specific objectives: Evaluate the energy content and acidity of RHM. Perform analysis of microbiological indicators. Methodology: LH samples will be obtained by donation from volunteer nursing mothers (n¿50) selected through social media and at the daycare and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) sectors of Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE). After expressing the milk, the RHM will be immediately frozen and thawed on the respective proposed analysis dates. The inclusion criteria are breastfeeding women that lactates for at least 15 days and who use their own breast pump. The exclusion criteria are breastfeeding women with diseases such as positive HIV, infectious, mental and/or who have complications related to lactation during the sample collection period. The analyzes carried out will be: Acidity, Energy and Microbiological Content at 15 days, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 months after milking. Statistical considerations: The analyzes will be evaluated by differences in means and standard deviation of the times analyzed, and p<0.05 will be considered as a significant difference. Expected results: Consider whether RHM can be stored in the freezer for more than 15 days and later offered to babies, and understand whether it will be possible to suggest a storage time limit for the RHM while it remains healthy, safe and nutritious.
