Abstract

This project aims to sequence new whole genomes from ancient individuals who lived along the Brazilian Coast and in the Amazon region between the 11th and 18th centuries, as well as to study present-day Indigenous Brazilian populations. The goal is to analyze fluctuations in allele frequencies over time and to infer the impact of European colonization on the genetic profile of Native populations. Additionally, the project seeks to investigate the persistence of these Indigenous ancestral components in contemporary Brazilian populations, contributing to a better understanding of genetic continuity and the formation of present-day genomic diversity in Brazil.
