Abstract

The purpose of the project presented is to systematically disseminate the main results, activities, research and work carried out by the Laboratory of Aging Biology at the Federal University of São Carlos (LABEN - UFSCar). Since it was founded, the laboratory has experienced important events in the history of science and technology in Brazil and around the world, both in terms of advances and setbacks. Communication aims to create a common ground for dialog and mutual learning between the subjects involved, far beyond simply translating technical terms. We therefore understand the urgent importance of scientific communication as a tool for scientific and technological progress in the country. Faced with Brazil's rapidly ageing population - which is expected to almost double by 2050 - and the growing prevalence of dementias, this initiative aims to build bridges between LABEN-UFSCar's academic output of excellence and the concrete needs of society and public health. In addition to the scientific research in progress, LABEN-UFSCar is running the "EnvelheCiência" project, with the construction and promotion of a teacher qualification course on ageing. These projects are included in this proposal, which integrates three strategic areas: (1) development of a digital encyclopedia with 50 multi-level scientific entries; (2) updating the database on the REDCap platform in line with the FAPESP PGDs; and (3) regular production of content on different communication platforms, such as the group's website and social networks. The researcher will work in close collaboration with LABEN researchers, as well as establishing partnerships to expand networks. The work will combine document analysis, co-creation with target audiences and peer validation, reviewing scientific articles, producing communication pieces in different formats, checking and organizing the database. The proposal for this new project is necessary because of its expansion and deepening of scientific production and communication, contributing to stimulating society's participation in research, debate on issues related to ageing, dementias, the health of older people and public policies for healthy ageing and care for this vulnerable population.
