Abstract

The ongoing doctoral research (FAPESP No. 2023/06504-2) aims to examine Brazilian and Argentine films produced during the 1980s, analyzing how these works selected, organized, and interpreted in distinct ways both the events that occurred under military dictatorships and the transformations resulting from democratic reconstruction. The study seeks to establish, initially, a comprehensive mapping of who produced and how they approached the theme of military dictatorship during the transition period, through the collection of data on filmmakers and the analysis of circulation and consecration of selected works. This cartographic proposal constitutes the empirical basis for subsequent film analysis, also enabling the identification of convergent and divergent elements within the ensemble of filmmakers and works examined. In the present research project, to be developed in France, we intend to work with data collected in previous years of the research, focusing on comparative analysis of tabulated materials and identifying possible structural similarities and principles of differentiation in the social spaces and cinematic fields studied.
