Abstract

Armed attacks on schools have increased in Brazil, particularly since 2019, with a notable surge in 2023. This scenario underscores the need for investigations into the motivating factors behind such events. This study aims to understand the perceptions and experiences of teachers and psychologists regarding the potential relationship between constructions of masculinity and motivations for school attacks. Two studies will be conducted to achieve this goal. The first study will involve an integrative literature review to identify evidence of the relationship between masculinity and school attacks. Databases and terms identified in prior studies will be utilized. The results of the review will be organized following the PRISMA protocol, and tables will be created to present the identified findings. The second study will be empirical in nature, comprising interviews and focus groups with teachers and psychologists. These interactions will be conducted using the Deliberative Dialogue method, allowing for the structured collection of qualitative data. The data gathered in this process will be analyzed using the principles of Reflexive Thematic Analysis. This analysis will be complemented by the findings from the literature review, providing an integrated and reflective perspective on the topic, as well as facilitating the synthesis of data from both the literature and empirical studies.
