Abstract

This project develops, implements, and validates two advanced protection functions for transmission lines, both of which were previously proposed and analyzed under FAPESP project 03306-8/2024. The chosen algorithms will be coded on the intelligent electronic device (IED) available at LPROT using the in-house LPROTFRAME framework and then evaluated in a hardware-in-the-loop setup that combines an Omicron CMC-256 test set with a dataset generated from ATP/EMTP simulations of the Brazilian Interconnected Power System. To further enhance the performance analysis, the use of real-time digital simulation will also be explored. The work plan comprises six stages: (i) literature review; (ii) familiarisation with the intelligent electronic device and framework; (iii) implementation of the protection logic; (iv) testing and validation; (v) analysis of the results and (vi) preparation of technical reports and journal articles. Expected outcomes include reduced security failures, faster clearing faults, and overall advances in transmission-line protection tailored to energy-transition scenarios with high shares of renewable generation.
