Abstract

This research internship abroad project aims to investigate the application of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the assessment of Eastern Amazon Biome's sustainable development. Whilst expanding knowledge on methodologies for spatial analyses and sustainable development assessment, the study seeks to model land use dynamics, discuss spatial changes, and identify drives and impacts of land use and land cover change on the Eastern Amazon Biome's sustainability. This will contribute to the selection of new indicators for the proposing of a Sustainable Development Index. The research will involve collaboration with the University of Copenhagen, leveraging its expertise in spatial analysis and sustainability assessment, within the area of Geography. Methodologies include international literature review, remote sensing data processing, land use modeling, spatial analysis, and knowledge exchange with international researchers. The project will support the domestic doctorate research and expects to contribute to methodological advancements in the application of spatial analysis to assess sustainable development, propose context related indicators, support a critical analysis of sustainability in the Eastern Amazon Biome, and foster Brazil-Denmark academic collaboration.
