Abstract

This project aims to adapt and apply human medicine criteria to the prescription of medications for elderly small-breed female dogs (older than 10 years). The proposal arises from the growing aging of the canine population and the lack of specific guidelines for the rational use of drugs in this age group.Through a literature review, the development of adapted criteria, expert validation, and analysis of clinical prescriptions, the aim is to identify potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) and propose a preliminary list tailored to the Brazilian context. The study directly contributes to safer practices in veterinary geriatrics.
