Abstract

Despite the reforms and guidelines implemented over time, teacher training in Brazil still faces structural challenges, such as curricular fragmentation; professionals, such as career precariousness; and social, such as the devaluation of teaching. In this context, the professional teaching identity emerges as one of the central aspects of attention, being directly influenced by these countless challenges that make up teaching. Studies indicate that participation in continuous training episodes contributes to the consolidation of this identity, promoting the development of knowledge through the relationship between theory and practice. The Eratóstenes Brasil Project, by providing investigative activities for Science and Astronomy teachers, is a promising initiative, with the potential to strengthen teaching professional identity through collaboration and experimental teaching. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to develop a theory based on data created from the analysis of teachers' participation in the project's formative episodes, related to the transformations in their pedagogical practice, investigating how this experience contributes to the construction and strengthening of their professional identity in the teaching of Science and Astronomy. As a result, the final inferences are expected to answer the central research question about the construction and development of professional teaching identity, offering ways to mitigate these challenges and strengthen teacher training in this area.
