Abstract With the creation of the sponge city concept, a paradigm shift has been taking place in scientific research on urban drainage. Conventional structures, also known as gray structures, favor waterproofing and greater flow in pipes and channels, increasing the risk of downstream problems. However, nature-based solutions are becoming popular as a way to drain rainwater, as they increase water interception and infiltration, reducing the magnitude of runoff. They are an option capable of reversing the current logic used in projects, but they need to be well dimensioned and positioned. In this regard, considering the evolution of machine learning techniques, the use of artificial neural networks may be an option due to their ability to predict complex phenomena. They have the potential to analyze hydrological parameters, identifying points most prone to surface runoff. This Research Internship Abroad consists of applying artificial neural networks as a way to support the strategic positioning of nature-based solutions in the future International Hub for Sustainable Development in the city of Campinas, São Paulo. The proposal is linked to Master's process 2025/01368-9, within the scope of work of the Center for Urbanization Studies for Knowledge and Innovation (CEUCI), one of FAPESP's Science Centers for Development (CCD). The proposal is for a six-month research internship abroad at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands. (AU) | |
