Abstract

This project has as its object the political writings of György Lukács (1885-1971), prioritizing those produced during the authors maturity, notably the 1960s, with special emphasis on "The Process of Democratization". When, in mid-1968, Lukács witnessed the Warsaw Pact invasion of the former Czechoslovakia, the author suspended the writing of his "Ontology" to write what he described as an extensive essay on the ontological-social problems of democratization. Thus, this project seeks to test the hypothesis that, for Lukács, democracy of everyday life, by socializing politics, would be the theoretical-practical instrument for deepening the socialist transition. To this end, we will rely on an immanent analysis of the aforementioned text, articulated with an accurate bibliographic review that takes into account not only the author's writings, but also those of his main interlocutors, in order to approach the "state of the art" of the debate.
