Abstract

Technology-based new companies have been highlighted by scholars and policy makers due to their possibility to value creation from academic research. However, in spite of recent advances in the literature, the process of creation and development of such kind of companies is still less known. To fulfill this gap, the proposal will discuss their development as an innovation process. To do so, it will be based on the framework of the innovation value chain by Hansen & Birkinshaw (2007), at its origin dedicated to large companies. This framework will help to understand the process of generation, conversion and diffusion of innovations in tech-based new companies. The aim is to add to this framework the developments on open innovation and knowledge networks to enlarge the understanding of the innovation process. The research will be based on an in-depth case study. (AU)
