Effect of intensity of effort in the mood and welfare: study about time exhaustion

Abstract

Over the past recent years, the number of exercise adepts has raised substancially, partly due to an increasing search for well-being. Tough this raise has generated a positive outcome in health and physical fitness levels, parameters such as exercise intensity and duration that are necessary to attain optimum wellness and well-being levels are not totally clear. Based on those facts, this research study goals are: to investigate the effects of exhaustion time (Tlim) in different intensities, in the mood and wellness level of healthy youngsters, identifying an effect curve of excercise's time-intensity. In order to reach those proposed goals, 15 male healthy and physically active volunteers between 18 and 35 years will take part in this study. These volunteers will undergo an exercise protocol with progressive weight, until they reach maximum exhaustion, in order to set the maximum consumption of oxygen and the anaerobic ventilatory threshold. After that, the volunteers will be conducted through 3 protocols of exhaustion time, which will be compared to the energetic expenditure, considering: a) Tlim at the anaerobic threshold intensity (Ventilatory Threshold 2); b) Tlim at the peak oxygen consumption intensity (VO2 peak); c) Tlim at 120% of VO2 max index. The volunteers will also answer questionnaires - before, immediately after, 5', 30', 60' 120', 180', 240' and 300' after protocols - regarding mood, anxiety and subjective experience in exercising.
