Abstract

Industrial activity has contributed significantly for the increase in the heavy metals concentration in waters, representing an important source of contamination of the aquatic bodies, mainly when we consider that such íons can be spread trophic chain. Lead(II) residues possess high contamination capacity and they reach underground water, reservoirs and rivers, that are the sources of water supply for the cities. Amongst the processes of metal retention, we have the use of natural materials, as coals, zeolites and clays, that it comes deserving attention due to its reduced cost and simplicity in the process. We intend to verify the behavior of two activated Brazilian carbons, submitted to the treatment with phosphoric acid and vapor, as adsorbents, evaluating the capacity of adsorption, the influence of pH and temperature and the stability of adsorbent. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the adsorption process will be obtained. (AU)
