Abstract

As we have seen the rapid technological growth, the economic setting changes and the hard competition, makes necessary some thinking in the way of manage and operate companies. This means quality program and certifiable management systems shall be required in order to be more competitive and adapted to this turbulent and changeable environment. Inside this perspective, programs related to quality such as TQM (Total Quality Management), Balanced Scorecard, Six Sigma, Lean Production and Cleaner Production certified by ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, when correctly implemented, considering the physics and cultural characteristic of the companies, will allow a significant waste reduction, and an increase in productivity and better quality. Therefore, they have chances of survival. From what was exposed, the main goal of this work is to verify, through a survey research, if the 100 largest Brazilian companies, ranked by Exame magazine, have programs related to quality as well as the certifications described above and which results they will have. This work starts with the assumption that these companies reached great performance on the national setting because they have implanted or have utilized described managements programs. To support the project development, a brief theoretical review of quality programs and certifiable management system programs will be made.(AU)
