Abstract

Throughout the twentieth century, composers have frequently dealt with problems in the rhythmic domain, firstly because of the necessity of creating procedures which were coherent with the rejection of tonalism; and secondly, because those very procedures brought out questions to be solved. The result was a multiplicity of sonorities and techniques with great potential of creation. This project is interested precisely in the possibility of articulation between rhythm and other domains of composition in order to elaborate the musical discourse. Different rhythmic procedures and characteristics, as well as their purposes and musical realization, will be studied through reading, analyzing and composing.
