Abstract

Bordetella bronchiseptica is one of agents involved in atrophic rhinitis and bronchopneumonia in pigs. The economical lost caused by these respiratory problems are largely recognized, but the impact of this pathogen in herd health is frequently underestimated. The knowledge of epidemiological aspects of B. bronchiseptica infection is very important to adoption of effective control and prevention measures to reduce pig infection, and in this direction, molecular epidemiology studies have a great relevance. The present project has the goal of characterize strains of Bordetella bronchiseptica isolated from pigs, trhough polimerase chain reaction and pulsed field gel electrophoresis.
