Clinical evaluation by sampling bifid uvula incidence in school children population in Monte Negro city

Abstract

The uvula is the anatomical element located in the back and middle part of the soft palate, formed by the union of the left and right palatum estaphilin muscles, mucous glands and connective tissue with intense lymphatic rete, covered for mucous membrane. It participates, with the soft palate, in the swallowing and phonation functions. The deformities of the uvula can be congenital or acquired. The more common congenital forms are: united bifid uvula and separated bifid uvula. The bifid uvula can come associated to the palatine and labial clefts and your prevalence it depends on the definition of this, as well as of the studied race. Before the divergence found in the literature regarding the incidence of bifid uvula in different populations, we proposed the accomplishment of this study, in order to we evaluate the incidence of bifid uvula in children with school age in Monte Negro city. It will be examined 300 children approximately, independent of gender, race, religion or class social economic, belonging to the public school of Monte Negro city. The intraoral exam will also be accomplished for detection of some alteration in the oral soft tissues; the examiners, a dentistry professional and the student responsible for the project, will make use of disposable wood spatulas as auxiliary instrument of the exam. The photographic documentation will just be obtained in the cases in that there is registration need for illustrative ends and it will be restricted to the altered area. After an evaluation of the obtained results, the data will be computed and the reasonable statistical analysis will be applied.
