Pulpal tissue presents potential for regeneration, due to inner stem cells capable of differentiating into specialized cells, such as odontoblasts, responsible for dentin production. In a fully formed tooth, irritating stimuli, such as carious lesions, chemical and mechanical injuries, can act on the pulpal tissue, leading to modulation of its activities to dentin formation. It has been demonstrated "in vitro" that some factors can stimulate proliferation and differentiation of dental pulp stem cells. Therapies that can stimulate cellular proliferation and differentiation may represent a way to tissue regeneration. Irradiation with low level laser, which presents biomodulation effects on cells, could be a viable alternative for pulpal tissue regeneration. Considering that studies that use this therapy in culture of dental pulp stem cells are scarce, the aim of the present work is to evaluate "in vitro" the effect of irradiation with Gallium Aluminum Arsenide (GaAlAs) laser on the behavior of a lineage of mouse dental pulp stem cells (OD-21). Experiments will be carried out for evaluation of cells proliferation and viability, using a variety of laser fluences (first part of the project). In a second part of this research, after selecting the most adequate fluence, the quantity of total protein, alkaline phosphatase activity and formation of mineralized nodules will be analyzed.
