Abstract

This project aims to continuing the development of a research that employs the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) as a tool for monitoring the dynamic behavior of major road structures - bridges and viaducts. The activities to be developed are designed to study the potential application of Global Positioning System (GPS) in monitoring the dynamic phenomena of Engineering. For dynamic phenomena it can be understood anyone who exhibits behavior that can be described over a period of time is monitored. Among these phenomena are the movements made by large structures such as bridges and overpasses, which under the action of dynamic forces may have behavior or nonlinear structural response. These slender structures since 2005, are more common in Brazil because of its ability to cross natural obstacles in great harmony with the surrounding environment and provide a place of tourist attraction. The GPS, along with the conventional structural equipment from the 80's is heavily used in monitoring continued or not such large structures and other phenomena in response over time, such as earthquakes. The availability of receptors with a rate of data collection up to 100 by opening a second line of research for monitoring structural frequencies that occur in the range of occurrence of multipath - up to 0.2 Hz and oscillation amplitude of less than 5 mm.
