Abstract

The project proposes an edition with critical apparatus of the Correspondence between Gilberto Freyre and José Lins do Rego, accompanied by a study of their practice of writing letters-understood as a substantial part of their works-in the context of the Brazilian modernism. Specifically, the objective is to prepare an edition of this correspondence with methodological rigor, to be composed by notes of the editor, which result in a comprehensive and formal apparatus of variants, and exegetical notes. While the critical apparatus of editor's notes, already begun, must be finalized, the main emphasis in this project will be given to: (a) the writing of exegetical notes, (b) the collection of relevant and informative material-such as iconography and unpublished writings-in order to reconstruct the literary and cultural environment of the epistolography, and (c) a critical study in comparative perspective, articulating the letters of Freyre and Lins with their works, and seeking to understand it as part of the modernist practice of writing letters.
