This project refers to the exploration of synthetic methods for the transformation of lactose, an abundant natural disaccharide, in bicyclic lactones systems with furanofurone and furanopirone skeletons. These molecules present a great interest for biological activity studies, especially due to their structural similarity with other bicycles with known cytotoxic action, as exemplified by the styryl lactones. In this synthetic route, we want to explore stereo-and regioselective reactions.
