Abstract

Due to working in an environment with high emotional demand, mental health professionals are vulnerable to psychological pressure and emotional exhaustion. The general aim of the present study is to evaluate stress manifestations, coping strategies, and quality of life of mental health professionals who provide secondary attention services, in Ribeirão Preto city. Participants will be the professionals assigned at least for a year, to supply secondary attention services: at the outpatient service of the Centro de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS), at the partial admission of CAPS and at the Mental Health Nucleus. The instruments to be used are: Complementary Questionnaire; Lipp’s Inventory of Stress Symptoms for Adults; Folkman and Lazarus’ Inventory of Coping Strategies, and Scale of Quality of Life, brief version (WHOOoL-brief). They will be applied individually, in a room with privacy conditions, in the service itself. The questionnaires are self applicable and will be answered in the presence of the researcher, who will be available for elucidating any doubts which may appear. The results of scales will be evaluated according to technical propositions and the data obtained will be statistically studied, comparing variables and groups of professional, by services. Initially Kolmogorov-Smirnov’s test will be applied, for the definition of the statistical treatment, aiming at verifying the normality or not of the data, for further application of parametric or non-parametric statistics.
