Monitoring races of downy mildew (Bremia lactucae) lettuce in the State of São Paulo

Abstract

The aim of this study is the monitoring of Bremia lactucae races in 2010, the major lettuce-producing regions of the State of Sao Paulo. The experiment will be conducted at UNESP-FCAV, in the Laboratory of Genetics and Breeding of Vegetable Crops, at Department of Plant Production. Will be collected isolates of B. lactucae, in the year 2010, the major lettuce-producing regions of the State of Sao Paulo, each sample is regarded as an isolate. Samples will be packaged in plastic bags, identified and placed in coolers for transport to the Laboratory of Genetics and Breeding of Vegetable Crops, which held the proliferation of sporangia in Solaris susceptible cultivar. Obtaining the necessary amount of sporangia, seeds of differential cultivars of lettuce will be planted separately in plastic germination boxes, lined with germitex paper and divided into four equal parts, and in each party will be planted 40 seeds of each cultivar differentiating and maintained for 15 days in BOD temperature of 13 º C and a photoperiod of 12 h. After that period, be held to be inoculated with the isolates collected in accordance with the technique Ilott et al. (1987). The evaluations will be done with double the days of the latent period of the fungus, verifying the presence or absence of sporulation and necrosis, according to methodology proposed by Van Ettekoven & Van Der Arend (1999).
