Abstract

Allergic diseases involving type I IgE hipersensitivity reactions are characterized by a group of heterogenous clinic manifestations and are present in over than 25% of world population. The most common allergens are pollen, mites, animals, food, molds, insect venoms and drugs. Many new allergens have been identified however many others have yet been detected, mainly regional allergens. Also new cases of cross reactivity that occurs because a similarity between epitopes from different sources as occurs with latex and some tropical fruits. Evidences in literature show that a proteomic approach using bidimensional immunoblotting is a powerful strategy for identification of new allergenic proteins. A great number of individuals are attended at Clinical Immunology and Allergy Service of HCFMUSP with the suspect of being allergic to proteins not yet described or just a little studied. Taking this into account the present work has the aim of initiate the Group of Study of New Regional Allergens (GENAR). This group will create a systematization of study from clinic to laboratory for identification of new allergens and study of cross reactivity through a proteomic approach. Blood samples of already selected patients with allergy to manioc will be used as a model. This initiative is justified by the imperative clinical need for better etiological diagnostic and treatment of allergies.
