Abstract

The Zanthoxylum genus (Rutaceae) comprises around 200 species distributed all over the world. Chemistry studies of this genus revealed the presence of alkaloids, amides, lignans, flavonoids, phenolic compounds and terpenes. Additionally, Z. narranjillo shown the occurrence of lignans and sesquiterpenes, where some lignans isolated showed anti-inflammatory and trypanocidal activities. It is important to mention that recent studies developed by our group (FAPESP fellowship no 2008/04376-7) with this specie lead to the isolation of three benzoic acid derivatives, 5-O-caffeoylshikimic acid, magnoflorine and of the flavonoid Apigenin-6-C-²-D-glucopyranosideo. Thus, this project mains goals are to continue the chemistry study of the n-BuOH fraction, to evaluate schistosomicidal activity of isolated compounds and also contribute to human resource formation in Franca region.
