Abstract

Styrax belongs to the family Styracaceae, and comprises around 130 species. Chemistry studies of S. ferrugineus reveal the accumulation of lignans and triterpenes. Where, benzofuranic lignans, homoegonol e egonol, showed mainly antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities, supporting the importance of this specie investigation. This project intents to realize the chemistry study of S. ferrugineus bioguide by the antiinflammatory activity, employing the in vitro cyclooxygenase inhibitory assay. Therefore, the principal goal of this proposal will be identify natural compounds with cyclooxygenase inhibitory activity, and also to contribute to the project: Phytochemistry study and evaluation of mutagenicity, antimutagenicity and cyclooxygenase inhibitory activity from Styrax (Styracaceae).
