Abstract

Natural Language Generation (NLG) from non-linguistic data is widely used in the visualisation of large or complex databases, and plays a major role in many other NLP applications, such as Machine Translation, Text Summarization, Semantic Web interfaces etc. In this work we present an undergraduate project proposal focused on the final stage of the language generation process, addressing the development of a simple surface realisation prototype for Brazilian Portuguese based on standard generate-and-select techniques, which will establish the basis for further studies on NLG at this institution.
