ANKLE BRACING: EFFECT ON DYNAMOMETRIC VARIABLES DURING BASKETBALL SIMULATION

Abstract

The ankle sprain injuries during ankle inversion corresponding to the most common injuries in basketball. Representing approximately 45,9% of the causes which impede to returning the athletes to the competition for a week or more. For this reason, the use of bracing has been described as a preventive measure to avoid the ankle sprains injuries in the athletes of basketball. The aim of this project is to analyze the influence of ankle bracing on dinamometric variables of stabilizing muscles of the ankle in basketball players, during the game simulation in door. Ten basketball atheletes will be participated of this study with ages ranging from 17 to 25 years, without history of muscle-skeletal disease in lower limbs in the last 6 months and without mechanical ankle instability. The volunteers will be performed a game simulation in door, which simulate the physical demands of basketball game, composed for four 10 minutes sets in two different situations, with and without use of ankle bracing, separated for 72 hours. Prior to the beginning of game simulation and after the second and fourth sets will be collecteded the isokinetic torque muscles of right lower limb. For this, will be performed five isokinetic maximal concentric and excentric muscle actions during ankle inversion and eversion movements at angular velocities 30°/s and 120°/s with ankle in a neutral position, in a predetermined random order. Its is expected that the use of ankle bracing can change the biomechanics variables in direction to maintain the ankle stability.
