Abstract

Professor Sicco Bus, senior and principal investigator of the Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam (#papers WoS 54, # 872 citations, H-index = 18), actively participate in the research project FAPESP 2014/27311-9 entitled "The effect foot exercise program and ankle on the prevention of running injuries in athletes: a randomized controlled trial ", which is being developed by LABIMPH and Department of Physical Therapy, Speech and Occupational Therapy, School of Medicine, University of São Paulo, under my coordination, during the period that he will be visiting us in 2017. This participation will take place in the form of (i) steering advisor of this clinical trial, (ii) discussion of its outcomes and variables/biomechanical parameters to be evaluated in this randomized controlled trial, and finally (iii) interpretation of partial data with a view to joint publication. The participation of Professor Bus will also be related to (iv) co-supervision of doctoral students Alessandra Bento Matias (market FAPESP) and Ulisses T. Taddei who are involved in the scientific project in question. Because of its broad and deep experience in clinical trials and biomechanical studies with diabetic population, the visiting professor will also be involved in (v) conducting a randomized clinical trial we are leading in LABIMPH related to the effect of therapeutic exercises for foot and ankle to prevent foot complications in diabetics. At the time of the visit we will also develop (vi) a methodological small-scale study on the measurement of plantar pressure during locomotion. Besides the contribution to existing research projects and this methodological study, (vii) seminars related to ongoing projects in LABIMPH will be presented and discussions of papers related to projects in LABIMPH will be developed. Professor Bus will also offer a (viii) course at USP Rehabilitation Sciences Program "An evidence-based approach to the management of diabetic foot and sports related conditions: clinical and research applications" (1 credit - 15h). In addition, (ix) a lecture on preparation and publication of manuscripts in good international journals for the same public and a lecture for undergraduate students in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy on Biomechanics of Sport will be given.
