Abstract

This research proposal aims to study the neural signal transmission in complex networks. Differing from previous studies mainly based on static network topology, we investigate the influence of time varying network structures on neural signal transmission. Specifically, we consider the small world networks and community networks which are constructed according to the recent experiments on brain networks. We hope our work may serve as an alternative explanation to understand both functional and pathological mechanisms of neural signal transmission in brain networks. Moreover, since current artificial neural networks use static and regular network topology, the study of neural signal transmission in networks of complex and time varying topology may open an alternative approach to develop new and more powerful artificial neural networks.
