Abstract

It has been developing for 14 years a Project of Research where settlements of columns are measured during construction of residential buildings, located in Bauru, São Paulo State. The buildings are constructed in concrete and masonry brick, and most of them are founded on deep caissons with enlarged base. The local soil is unsaturated, residual of sandstone. The displacements of the columns are measured using conventional surveying technique. Bench marches are installed as far as possible from the main tower. Plastic rulers, graduated in mm, are installed in each column of the building, and using optical levels the position of theses ruler are compared with the ruler installed in the bench march. Considering the variation of the relative position it is possible to calculate the total settlement of all columns at the time of the measurement. These data will allow knowing the behavior of the foundations normally used in Bauru resulting foundations projects more economic and with adjusted security factor (AU)
