Abstract

In this project we intend to study some aspects of entanglement in many-particle condensed matter systems. One of ours goals is a more detailed analysis of the use of Matrix Product States (MPS) in the study of critical systems. The idea is to examine in more detail a proposal made earlier by the candidate and collaborators and compare it with existing methods. Another purpose of our research is the study of the capacity the Matrix Product States to approximate thermal states, since the former only exhibit an entropy which varies with the area. Finally, we have the more ambitious objective of investigating the properties of entangled pure states that can generate thermal states locally. We would also like to investigate the dynamics of this process of "thermalization"
