Abstract

Starting from the reading, on the one hand, from the medievalists of the "New History", and, on the other hand, from the art historians and sociologists, such as Huyghe, Hauser and Francastel, this research paper intends to observe and to realize how the medieval man faced death and how their fears and anxiety were expressed on Art. It takes place, therefore, on the study area of the relations between art and society, noticing how the historical contexts influences art and, on the contrary, how art tells and reveals history.
