Abstract

The buffalo milk production still incipient in Brazil, despite growing. The buffaloes are known to be more resistant to the bovine mastitis, but may still be affected by this disease, which brings considerable damage to the production. The scarcity of data in this regard, this study aims for the analysis of milk buffaloes with mastitis, to evaluate the clinical aspects of this disease, the etiology involved and treatment with antibiotic cephalosporin class. Of the 50 animals with positive result in the CMT (California Mastits Test) and / or proof mug screened are collected milk samples before treatment and 7 days after application of the medication. All samples will be subjected to analysis for pH, electroconductivity, levels of chloride, lactose, protein, fat, total solids and somatic cell count. In addition, samples will also be subjected to microbiological examination for bacterial isolation and identification of microorganisms present in milk and their antibiograms. The data will be compared statistically to determine whether early treatment promoted any significant change in the properties of milk, mainly in the number of somatic cells, the greater indicator of health of the mammary gland.
