Abstract

The use of titanium for dental prosthodontics has increased in the last years due to its desirable characteristics, but problems related to melting and the high price of the investment materials limit its use. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the investment type and final temperature of the mold in the quality of titanium type I castings. The investments Rematitan Plus (special for titanium) and Castorit Super C (alternative) will be used, and it will be evaluated roughness, microhardness, strength resistance, optical microscopy and quality of castings by radiographic analysis. For the tests, plates in retangular form (28 mm length , 3mm width and 2mm thickness) will be obtained, casted in cp titanium in two different mold temperature: 430°C and room temperature. The metal will be casted by voltaic-arc and injection of metal in the mold by vaccum-pressure. The casted plates will be examinated radiographically and the radiographs will be digitalized by a scanner and after analyzed by Image Tool software. After radiographic analysis, roughness will be evaluated with surface roughness tester Mitutoyo SJ-201P in a speed of 0.05mm/s and cut-off of 0.8mm. For the microhardness Vickers test, the samples will be cut and three areas from the superficial layer will be performed: 10mm, 50mm and 150mm. Strength flexure will be performed using an universal testing machine EMIC MEM 2000 in a speed of 0.5mm/min with a load cell of 500 Kg. The number of samples will be determined in a pilot study. The results will be analyzed by an appropriate statistical test. (AU)
