Abstract

Diabetes is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia. The type 2 diabetes is associated to insulin resistance, that is an inadequate insulin action, added to an inadequate insulin secretory response. The type 1 diabetes is characterized by insulin secretion deficiency that occurs in response to autoimmune destruction of the beta cells. The intramiocelular lipid content and endogenous glucose production rate are increased in patients with type 1 diabetes, associated to changes in glucose metabolism and metabolic inflexibility. However, despite the presence of these features of insulin resistance, their role in type 1 diabetes and its complications are not clear. The relation between physical activity, metabolic control and insulin resistance in patients with type 1 diabetes are not reported in the literature. The aim of this study is to assess physical activity degree (pedometer and questionnaire) of patients with type 1 diabetes, correlating with glicemic and lipidic control, blood pressure and insulin resistance levels. We will estimate the insulin resistance by William’s equation (eGDR) that correlates the glucose disposal rate with clinical and laboratorial characteristics.
