Abstract

Studies relevant related to tension caused by chewing and malocclusion as primary etiologic factors of the non-carious lesions. Considering the high prevalence of malocclusion in adolescents, it is pertinent to verify the possible relationship between the presence of malocclusions and development of non-carious lesions. The aim of this study is to identify in vivo patterns of tooth wear in Angle Class II malocclusion patients through the analysis of 200 patients take care in the Orthodontics Clinic of Bauru School of Dentistry. The sample will be divided into three groups: G1-patients with normal occlusion (n = 50); G2- patients carrying ½ to ¾ of Class II malocclusion (n = 75); and G3- patients carrying complete Class II malocclusion (n = 75). For the evaluation of the tooth wear, the Dental Wear Index (DWI) will be applied. The three groups will be compared in order to evaluate the frequency and severity of tooth wear in each surface of the following groups of teeth: incisors, canines, premolars and molars. The statistical analysis will be realized applying Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by Dunn test (p<0.05).
