Abstract

BACKGROUND: Injuries can occur in any physical activity by several factors, from lack of gestures to burden. Specifically in dance, there is the use of specific orthodox techniques, constituted by anti-anatomical positions that may promote excessive stress in the skeletal muscle system tissue. In this sense, it is understood how important is the observation and study on the ways of injuries occurrence in this modality. Surveillance systems on injuries installation in dance have been established in some countries but, in Brazil, there is no record of similar structure which insists on controlling diseases, especially in high levels of performance. OBJECTIVE: To explore risk factors for injuries in dance professionals participating in international events, according to the characteristics of modalities in the dance. METHODOLOGY: The study will be conducted during the 26º Festival de Dança de Joinville (Dance Festival of Joinville) from 16 to 26 July, 2008. Participants will be randomized chosen in a moment that do not interfere in their participation in the event, invited to participate in the study. Prior to participation, all procedures will be explained and each subject will provide written informed consent to the study. The data will be obtained from a specific questionnaire, which will be completed by the researchers, based on the Questionário de Morbidade Referida (Referred to Morbidity Survey), already validated, but modified by characteristics of the modality. It contains, in addition to data on injuries received in the last 12 months, information on intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors that causes sports injuries. To study the association between the qualitative variables will be used the test of Goodman to contrast between and within multinomiais populations. EXPECTED RESULTS: Search a profile for the typical injuries in each of the dance modalities investigated, tendency to anatomical segments and time of occurrence of injuries in the target population of search. Thus, it is intended to add elements to the literature of the area, intending to corroborate the information already published, and stimulate the construction of new research in this field.
