Monitoring children's families with chronic diseases: perception of the Family Health Staff

Abstract

Chronic situation are increasing in the daily routine of the primary care assistance in Brazil, and the Unified Health System adopted has in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) it`s main structure. Such strategy has an arrangement which promote healthcare quality, as it values the bound between users and health teams and the co-responsibility in the health process. As a consequence, the professionals have to have abilities in hearing, an effective communication, good bound establishment and a sensibility to the health necessities, transcending the biological approach. Chronic situations where children are involved, families are oblige to deal with demands of this situations and the professionals of the health care teams can and must offer a collaborative care. For so doing, they must recognize the family as an unit of care and a unit to be cared for. The purpose of this study is to characterize how the family care team of the FHS perceives their follow up dynamic of families which live with the chronic situation of their child. This study is a qualitative research that selected the Symbolic Interactionism as the theoretical reference and the Context Analysis as the methodological reference, using the focal group as data collection strategy. It aims to contribute with the scientific knowledge for family care, as well to the quality of the assistance developed in this instance.
