Abstract

This research, part of the FAPESP (04/15737-0) thematic project, has as its main objective the performance of a comparative study between architectural elements of the "Moorish Pavilion", a building located in the Fiocruz Institute complex in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and buildings of La Alhambra in Granada, Spain, a vivid example of medieval architecture. Although eclectic, the "Moorish Pavilion" presents an indirect influence of La Alhambra where Oswaldo Cruz, its creator and the Portuguese architect Luiz de Moraes Junior inspired themselves. This study has as its main objective, therefore, the study and documentation of the region of the La Alhambra in architectonical elements found in the "Moorish Pavilion" by an investigation and comparative analysis between geometrical patterns through material collected in loco. Thus, it is intended to generate an illustrated documentation on the influence of La Alhambra on the " Moorish Pavilion", as well as create inputs for exploratory development of free forms from discovered geometrical patterns and therefore contribute to better understanding and disclosure of Moorish influence in Brazil as well as the redemption of its compositive patterns so that these can be used in the development of new architectonic elements.
