Abstract

The research aims to evaluate the use of glass fiber reinforced polymer for ceramic or concrete block strengthening through a numerical and experimental analysis. First the finite element program ABAQUS will used to model experimental tests already done at the University of Calgary, allowing non-linear behavior of the materials and slipping of interfaces. From this micro-modeling we intend to study how much of the wall surface needs to be filled with fiber, to evaluate stresses at corners and ends, possibility of slipping, anchorage length and thickness of the fiber layer. Models of new configurations of experimental tests will then be proposed. Finally new experimental tests will be done. (AU)
