Abstract

The aim of this proposition is to accomplish post-doctoral studies at the University of California (UC), Davis campus, in the research area of Work Organization, from September 2010 to June 2011. The research aim is to analyze the participation of workers in operations management. In the 80’s, there was signals of significant changes in this aspect, however, in recent researches, especially in the automotive and appliance industry, it was observed that they have advanced, but then stabilized. The very idea of worker participation seems to have lost out in the management literature and especially in the companies. This coincides with the downsizing processes, supposedly to serve the interests of shareholders. The objective of post-doctoral fellow at UC Davis is to maintain contact with other researchers and update the readings on these topics in order to support future research and those that are already underway.
